Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Director Discusses TChallas Illness

Black Panther: When A Day and I win for the war, Ryan Coogler talked about how he handled the TChalla/Chadwick Bosemans pass in the Marvel sequel.

When asked about why they started the sequel and then re-engineered the project, Coogler explained his reasoning.

We wanted to engage with the reader, told The New York Times. That’s about the transformational quality of grief and trauma. There is a scepticism for emotional trauma that requires time. Oh, give them some weeks of rest! they’re in the shop and back to it. Unfortunately, that person is completely different. This is not apparent on any one of us.

The director was asked in the final film why he decided TChalla would die suddenly of an illness. He said that it is due to Shuris’ journey.

We wanted to keep it simple, explained Coogler. She felt that she could do it and that she failed. And we did not want him to have to have anywhere to displace his anger. If someone else would’ve taken TChalla out, Shuri would’ve looked for that person. We wanted it to be a situation where the only place we could go was in the intern.

Wakanda Forever oversaw the return of many of Black Panthers’ original stars, including Lupita Nyongo and Nakia, Danai Gurira as Okoye, Angela Bassett as Ramonda, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross, Letitia Wright as Shuri, Winston Duke as MBaku and Florence Kasumba as Ayo. Tenoch Huerta (Narcos: Mexico) as Namor, Michaela Coel (I May Destroy You) as Aneka, Mabel Cadena as Namora and Alex Livinalli as Attuma joined them.
